Celebrating Four Decades of Service

Graeme Turnbull being congratulated on 40 years from James Ray.

Graeme Turnbull began his career in funeral care in 1985 when his girlfriend’s stepdad offered him a role at L J Richmond’s in Wembley.

What started as a driver and bearer position soon became a meaningful vocation that has shaped the last four decades of his life.

He later joined J R Bartons, where his responsibilities grew to include arranging and conducting funerals, supporting families, and managing the essential work that happens behind the scenes.

Graeme approached every part of the role with steady commitment and a genuine desire to help people at difficult moments in their lives.

Throughout his career, he has seen the profession evolve in many ways. Standards have continued to rise, expectations have changed, and families now look for more personalised and meaningful ways to honour their loved ones. Graeme has adapted to each shift with the same calm professionalism that has defined his work from the beginning.

Now aged 65, Graeme continues to serve as a Funeral Service Operative at W Sherry & Sons Funeral Directors. Retirement is not something he is considering. He remains fully engaged in his work, offering experience, compassion and reliability to every family he supports.

“After four decades, I’m still learning, still helping, and still proud to be part of it.”

Graeme’s career is a reminder of the dedication and consistency that underpin quality funeral care.
