Lynn Dunn Retires - Nicky Sims takes over in Ickenham

25th April 2022

Thank You...

Lynn Dunn,

After 17 years loyal service to the company and the community, as manager of our Ickenham branch, Lynn dunn retired this year. A highly valued member of our team and a familiar personality to so many people in the local area, Lynn will be greatly missed. Lynn is however still a part of the local community and has promised to help out from time to time (which softens the blow for us a little bit!) :-)

Lynn is succeeded by Nicky Sims (pictured receiving the keys to the shop). Nicky was born in Ickenham and has lived there all her life and welcomes the opportunity of supporting Ickenham's families during difficult and sensitive times.

Neil Sherry commended during Covid-19 pandemic

11th May 2021

Neil Sherry was recently commended by Her Majesty The Queen's personal representative HM Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE for his services during the global covid pandemic.

Neil served on various death management panels and working groups in London and across the country and was the SAIF representative on the Mortality Management Group reporting to the cabinet office. In his correspondence (below) the Lord-Lieutenant commented that Mr. Sherry "had gone above and beyond the call of duty to help others during the Covid-19 pandemic".

Neil humbly accepted the recognition commenting, "During these very difficult and challenging times the working groups kept the government updated on the facts and figures and procedures were put in place to ensure events were managed as well as they could have been. W Sherry & Sons put policies in place to minimise the spread of the disease and keep everyone safe and well. I am incredibly proud of my team and colleagues who worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic and that we have kept families and our staff safe in these most difficult of times."

'Alternative' Funerals (A modern approach)

27th November 2019

The Funeral Service in Britain is changing rapidly. There are companies offering 'alternative' funerals, with a different, more modern approach compared to how the more 'traditional' funerals are carried out.

It is true that every life is unique and therefore every funeral is unique and the life of someone should be celebrated in a way that is unique to that individual. You may not want a black hearse, or someone walking in front of it dressed in full mourning attire wearing a top hat. You may not want a traditional wooden coffin. You may like the idea of having a burial in a woodland area. You may not even want a funeral service at all, instead celebrating the life elsewhere at a different time and place altogether.

Some people still want what is considered a very traditional funeral. At W Sherry & Sons we offer this, but we can also help with any 'alternative' arrangements you may wish to make the funeral as unique as possible, and with 170 years of experience we are well equipped to advise you on all aspects of the arrangements.

Some things you may want to think about as an 'alternative' to a traditional funeral;

Please do not hesitate to call us to discuss any requirements you may have.

Funeral Plans

31st October 2018

There are a number of insurance and related companies (people who are not funeral directors) currently offering ‘funeral plans’. Some of these people are NOT Funeral Directors.
If you would like to make arrangements for your own or somebody else’s funeral it is best to talk to a Funeral Director (rather than an insurance or other company)
At W Sherry & Sons we use Golden Charter Funeral Plans (The Independent Way), tailored to your personal requirements, offering ALL types of funerals from the simplest to the most elaborate.
The plans let you fix the cost of the Funeral Directors’ services included in the plan at today’s prices, you have the reassurance of knowing there’ll be nothing more to pay for these services – and that’s guaranteed (once your plan is paid for).
Golden Charter is owned by the people who understand your needs best – the independent funeral directors.
Golden Charter are the ONLY plans recommended by the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF).
Over 500,000 people in the UK have purchased a Golden Charter funeral plan.
If you would like further information on pre-paid funeral plans please call us or visit one of our 9 branches. We will be happy to discuss your needs free of charge with no obligation or cost to you.

Sherrys' Xmas Party

24th January 2018

W Sherry & Sons' staff and associates recently enjoyed their annual Christmas Party at Uxbridge Cricket Club and it turned out to be a memorable evening.

There was a Beatles / Sgt. Pepper / 60s theme and many guests arrived in fancy dress (at least we think they were in fancy dress!) They were entertained by their good friends, the excellent live band, 'Rhinoplasty'. Sherrys' Resident DJs then took to the decks to keep the crowd dancing until the early hours.

27th September 2017

Neil Sherry recently visited the Shooting Star Chase Children's Hospice in Hampton, Middlesex. They were delighted to see him especially as he presented them with a cheque for £2500 from fundraising events.

Michael Sobell House

29th June 2017

Staff and friends from W Sherry & Sons have raised £3000 for Michael Sobell House in Northwood by taking part in the recent 40-mile charity bike ride organised by the hospice.

The Sherry team did this in memory of their colleague Corrado Boscarelli who sadly passed away in March. He was wonderfully cared for by everyone at the Hospice and Ophelia Chambers-Henry, Events & Community Fundraising Manager at Michael Sobell Hospice said: “We are so thrilled with the fantastic amount which was raised by the team at W Sherry & Sons. The hospice which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, relies heavily on charitable donations by local individuals and companies to keep up the high standard of support and care for its patients and their families in the most difficult time of their lives. We are very grateful to Neil Sherry and his staff for their support.”

Funeral Costs

12th April 2017

There has been a lot of press coverage recently surrounding the cost of a funeral. Some sources have claimed that funeral costs have doubled in the last ten years. In our experience this is NOT the case.

There are also a number of websites advertising 'low cost funerals'.

At W Sherry & Sons we are committed to providing the best service at the fairest and most competitive prices. We offer a bespoke funeral service, tailored to your individual requirements, depending on the level of service required and the budget you are willing to spend on the funeral.

As an independent family run company our fees are negotiable depending on your circumstances. We can arrange the simplest or most elaborate funeral. And you can be sure that you will receive a professional service provided by a company with 169 years experience behind it.

Please contact us for a free no obligation quote or to discuss your specific requirements.

R.I.P. Corrado Massimo Boscarelli 1961 - 2017

31st March 2017

It is with great sadness and regret that we have to report the passing of one of our senior managers. Corrado passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday 8th March 2017 at The Michael Sobell Hospice, Northwood.

Corrado was an essential part of our hard working team. He took his work very seriously and had a wonderful empathy with the families he served. He also had a very unique sense of humour.

Corrado will be greatly missed by all of us.
